Brazil lost Edmilson for the World Cup

Brazil coach Carlos Parreira will have to do without Barcelona star Edmilson at the World Cup after the midfielder was dropped from the team Wednesday due to a torn meniscus in his right knee.

"This is really bitter for me," expressed the 29-year-old Edmilson, who broke into tears prior to leaving the Brazilian training camp in Weggis.

"I suffered a serious injury in 2004 and couldn't play for eight- and-a-half months. I fought so hard. My heart remains here," he expressed. "One day I'll return and get lots of titles with the Selecao."

FC Sao Paulo's Mineiro takes Edmilson's place in the team.

The Brazil team doctor Jose Luiz Runco is convinced that Edmilson needs an operation for the injury, which is probably three or four weeks old but hard to detect.

Furthermore, Runco denied rumours that the footballer injured himself in a tackle with forward Adriano.
