Italian Zambrotta to miss first game

Share |

Italian player Gianluca Zambrotta is down with an injury and can't play against Ghana in the World Cup. He suffered a muscle injury in his left thigh during training last weekend and will need at least two weeks to recover.

"However, if things go ok, he will come back in 15 to 20 days," said Italian doctor Enrico Castellacci. "In a week's time, he will have another test done but we are calm and optimistic."

As we know, Zambrotta is a regular player in Marcello Lippi's team, and he might recover in time to face USA on June 17.

It's important to notice that doctors have ruled out a ligament damage. But Zambrotta will need to have a scan and is unlikely to travel to Gena with the rest of his team-mates for the warm-up friendlies against Switzerland and Ukraine.
